INTENT

Our KS2 MFL lessons are intended to offer a Curriculum that enables the pupils the opportunity to become less insular and to be open to other cultures.  It is part of our bid to teach respect for difference.  It focuses on phonics, vocabulary and grammar of our chosen MFL (French).  Our intention is that by the end of KS2, our pupils will be able to listen to and understand French and be able to express themselves.  We want them to feel confident writing in that language too.

IMPLEMENTATION

Lessons will be progressive throughout each year and up the key stage.  We focus on building vocabulary, awareness of the differing phonics, grammar and differing syntactical rules.  We use Language Angels as a support tool for teachers and pupils. We teach as a discrete subject but additionally children will learn through other subjects for example music, learning songs and rhymes. Children are exposed to different cultures through engagement with parents, they experience a variety of languages from Early Years. Children learn about many different cultures as parents share their knowledge and expertise.

IMPACT

Our wish is that pupils will become increasingly knowledgeable about French language and culture and will be able to express themselves with confidence, both orally and in the written form.
