Geography
BackIntent
At St Mary’s we want to develop children’s understanding of the world around them. Local, national and global geography is taught and we want our children to develop a strong knowledge of the Geographical topics covered. We recognise God as creator of everything and it is through the study of our world we can celebrate God’s creation. We want our children to be aware of the world around them, both physical and human.
Implementation
We follow the National Curriculum and sequence our curriculum to develop knowledge and geographical skills required to enable progress to be made throughout the school. Cross-curricular links are developed where possible especially in Writing, Maths and Science. The strong knowledge the children acquire is key for them to move forward and prior learning is always built upon.
Impact
Children have a love of Geography and have a good knowledge of the physical and human topics covered. Children are able to understand the world around them more and give reasons for natural and man-made events happening.
